Dinner 1

Our Origins:  The First Dinner

Date: Friday, 30th April 1999

Place: The Waterfront Restaurant, The Rocks

On the evening of Friday 30th April 1999, a group of Phantom devotees gathered at the Waterfront Restaurant situated in the historic Rocks area nestled under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Their purpose was to mourn the death of Lee Falk and to celebrate his great creation...  The Man Who Cannot Die.

The evening (a classic Sydney Autumn one graced by a starry sky and a cool breeze) turned out to be a particularly pleasant and friendly gathering of people who were linked by a strong common bond.  The splendid bill of fare and a particularly fine range of wine (including a cab/sav/merlot from WA to die for!) assisted the process of mutual enjoyment.

The evening was highlighted by a fine eulogy delivered by Jim Shepherd, head of Frew Publications.  Jim spoke of Lee Falk with great affection and his anecdotes, being first hand, added to the warm atmosphere.
